A lot of us may have experienced driving. Or if not, perhaps you have ridden a vehicle then. Normally when you drive, your head is in the same position as your body. But if it unfortunately happens that the car you’re driving or riding on gets rear ended by another vehicle, it causes you to forcibly lean forward. And as you put a sudden stop to your car,the event causes your head to jerk backward to bounce against the headrest. A few days later you experience a certain pain in the neck. This condition is called ‘Whiplash’.

Whiplash is a term used to describe neck pains following an injury. It is when the soft tissues of the neck are injured with the motion done during the accident. The name came from the action jerking or whipping of the head during the accident. Whiplash is not only a result of vehicular accidents, but it’s also frequent in sporting activities, accidental falls, and riding amusement rides such as roller coasters.

Symptoms of Whiplash
Following the injury, you may experience pain and stiffness along the center area of your neck. Some people feel better afterwards, but the pain comes back in a few days or so. You may have developed a whiplash if you experience the following: neck pain and stiffness, headaches, pain in between your shoulders, lower back pain, numbness in the arm or hand, dizziness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, difficulty concentrating or remembering, irritability, sleep loss and fatigue.

Preventing whiplash
As they always say, “prevention is better than cure”. Here are two major ways you can avoid experiencing whiplash:
a. Always wear your seatbelt and adjust your headrest according to your height when driving. Make sure than the middle part of the headrest is at par with your ears. This is most likely the correct height of your headrest.

b. Children and babies can also experience whiplash injuries by excessive shaking (babies who experienced shaken baby syndrome is known to have experienced whiplash) and violence.

Treatment
If you have already acquired the whiplash, the best first aid you could do to relieve the pain and reduce inflammation is to apply an ice pack to the neck for 20 minutes each hour for the first 24 hours following your injury. Take also medications for pain relief if the condition worsens and starts to be more painful. Do not hesitate to see your doctor so he/she could advise you on further steps that you can do to treat whiplash.

Greg was carefully driving down the busy city street. Having been a taxi driver for such a long time, the dark-skinned, heavy-set man was having a fun day. He had just taken a frequent passenger of his over to a hotel, in which he was tipped quiet largely for his efforts. Laughing as he drives, he suddenly sees a cat sleeping in the middle of the street. Stepping hard on the brakes, Greg’s upper body – particularly his neck – jerked violently. Dazed and in pain because of the sudden stop, he looked up over from his hood. The cat was safe.

Taking the cat with him home, Greg felt the repercussions of his neck pain. Suddenly, he remembered his first aid driving school lessons. It must be a whiplash injury, he said.

First bringing the cat inside, and setting some milk in a dish for it to feast on, Greg sat on his bed and tried to remember his lessons:

You Have Got to Move it, Boy!
And that’s the first thing he thought of. He remembered that constant movement is needed in a whiplash injury, in order for the neck not to lock up. Slowly twisting and turning his neck, in a circular then side-by-side motion, Greg then gently massaged the troubled area. He did this for quite some time, until he felt the pain subside. Gaining confidence because of the movement, he made sure that his neck is in total motion at all times.

Proper posture even at sleep is needed, Boy!
To help him have the right neck and back posture, Greg laid out several soft pillows on top of his bed. He made sure that the pillows were placed on just the right spots. This will help him sleep on a bad and painful position, when he does decide to call it a night later.

Call the physiotherapist, Boy!
And right after cleaning the cat’s dish up, Greg called up his physiotherapist buddy. He scheduled an appointment with him for the next day, just to make sure that everything is OK with his neck. His friend also advised him of several medications which he may take for a peaceful night, on which luckily, he has some available on stock in his cellar.

So Greg’s ready to sleep on his whiplash injury safe bed. He’s also quite excited on meeting his physiotherapist buddy the next day. But most of all, he’s quite happy that he’s found a new friend. With the cat purring softly, he turned off the lights and said goodnight to another day in his life.

As one who drives his own car, I know first-hand how inconvenient and costly accidents are. It’s a fact of life – no matter how safe or defensive you drive, you can never prevent accidents. One such common vehicular accident are whiplash injuries. This is where when the sudden jerk of one’s neck – probably due to a car’s brakes – causes mild to severe pain. It’s uncomfortable, to say the least. Sad thing about this, most drivers take this injury for granted. If you did or are currently suffering from whiplash injury, are you doing yourself a favor by doing the right sort of treatment? Check this quiz out, to find out if you’re doing things properly:

After an unfortunate whiplash injury, do you try to move your head constantly?

Yes No

Quite surprisingly, constant movement is needed in order to fast-track a whiplash injury. Often, because of the pain involved, most patients opt to let the neck stay in a static and unmoving position. This in turn, may lead to even more problems which would stiffen or lock the neck up. Help yourself by slowly moving your neck in a circular motion. Then, try to gently massage your entire neck – particularly the affected area. Once the pain has subsided, make sure to regularly move your neck. This will prevent pain from setting in again.

After an unfortunate whiplash injury, do you use soft pillows to cushion your neck?

Yes No

Because your neck will probably be in a world of pain after a whiplash injury incident, it’s also best to use soft pillows and other related cushioning material to properly support your neck. Good cushioning material will not only help you position yourself in a comfortable manner. It will also help you have a good postural position when you sleep, a plus when treating whiplash injuries.

After an unfortunate whiplash injury, have you tried contacting a physiotherapist?

Yes No

Regardless if your whiplash injury is mild or not, always consult a physiotherapist’s help. A physiotherapist, depending on the severity of the injury, may also recommend other treatment options such as heat and traction. Likewise, a physiotherapist may also prescribe with the needed medication, to help you recover.

Recovering from whiplash injuries can be as easy as counting – if you know what you’re doing. Always take this quiz whenever you need to fight whiplash. And to help you further out, make sure to drive safely. You never want to experience this condition.

A common and devastating injury commonly encountered in vehicular accidents, whiplash is the sudden and violent jolt and extension of the neck due to a strong impact or crash. As the neck and spine are the areas damaged by this injury, whiplash may prove to be a dangerous – and often fatal – incidence.

Prevention of whiplash may vary from each car, with some models containing features meant to stop the impact. Though this is still not fool-proof, with the unpredictability and circumstantial events that causes whiplash.

Whiplash also causes neck sprains, wherein may appear hours after the accident actually occurred. Common symptoms of whiplash neck sprain are pain and stiffness in the neck; headache, dizziness and trouble turning or bending the neck.

There is hope for those unfortunately involved in a whiplash accident, and having a neck sprain as a result. Here are some treatment options worth considering:

Progression starts with movement – as hard as it may be, with a neck sprain so painful, try moving the neck as much as possible. Once the neck has moved, a gentle massage is in order. The reason for constant movement is to prevent the neck from “locking up”, or “stiffening up”.

Choice of Drug – upon consultation and recommendation from your doctor, you may be prescribed any of the following drugs – paracetamol, anti-inflammatory painkiller, and/or a muscle relaxant.

Posture Perfect – keeping a good, straight posture may help relieve the pain caused by whiplash neck sprain. Also, implementing exercises that include postural adjustments in their routine – Yoga, Pilates – may improve neck and back posture as well.

Soft Cushioning for A Hard Neck – soft pillows and mattresses may help relieve some of the pain in the neck. The pillow will also allow the patient to position the neck and head back to a good posture.

Getting Physical – getting help from a physiotherapist may help relieve the pain as well. On an initial visit with one, a whiplash neck sprain patient may be offered different treatment options such as heat or traction procedures. A physiotherapist may also provide instructions and demonstrations of special exercises, which may be done in the comfort and security of the patient’s home. As of note, a doctor usually recommends a physiotherapist’s advice, if the prescribed painkillers have little to no effect on the patient at all.

Whiplash neck sprain, though not exactly preventable, can still be treated. Proper knowledge, patience and the will to endure painful movement and discomfort can help overcome this pesky neck sprain.

Did you experience sudden neck injury in the office? Are you looking for a place you can stay for a little while to rest your neck? People who get neck injury are growing monstrously. According to most of these people, they experience neck pains due to their work. Whatever their line of work is, there is a possibility to suffer from neck injury. These people are all in the same boat and share the same sentiments. All they need is rest from work, even just for a while. Rest is essential in any human life. Without rest, the body can get tired and strained. So if you want to avoid the chance of experiencing neck injury, the word you need to hear is “rest”.

One way of resting is by checking-in in motels. When you are at home, there is a tendency of worrying about what you need to do, your roles and responsibilities, and other obligations. But when you are in a motel, all you have to care about is yourself and your resting time. Feel like a king or queen, lying down on a soft and comfortable bed. Be surrounded with comfort as you unwind from the work stress you have. Besides, you can do this over the weekend. Comfort Inn coupons, which you can use to lower your room rates, can be used even for weekends. The coupons are very easy to get anyway. All you have to do is find them in their main website.

If you are tired of staying in your room, you can go out for a while and stroll. Try to check out museums nearby. If you happen to stay in Missouri, it is the perfect time to see what’s in St. Louis City Museum. This museum also offers free coupons. St. Louis City Museum coupons can be easily found online, just like how you can get Comfort Inn coupons. Just be careful not to strain your neck when you are inside the museum. Because it is for sure you will find a bunch of interesting things in every exhibit you encounter.

Museums might be part of your interest. Also check out Henry Ford Museum coupons and learn more about America’s history

Are you feeling a lot of pain in your neck too often? If you think that it’s just an ordinary neck pain, you better consult you doctor for a more accurate check up. One of the body parts that you really have to take good care of is your neck. Why, this part can be damaged without shedding blood and still gets fatal. There were instances when some people had a near-death situation because of the drastic neck injury they had. One of the injuries that can give burden to your daily living is whiplash. This neck injury is caused by kind of accidents and the worse part is, whiplash cure can take a really long time. So here are some of the common causes of whiplash that can help you prevent in the near future.

Car accident – Experts say that the intensity of the car crash is completely reciprocal to the level of whiplash that a victim can get. Long and short of it, it’s still the speed that you have to consider when driving because it is the factor that determines that impact of the car crash.

Repetitive stress injuries – You acquire whiplash by doing the same work over and over again without rest. Some of the stressful works that can give you a neck injury are using your neck to hold the phone while doing something, typing in front of the computer for a long time and reading. The whiplash cure fit for this is a regular neck exercise that you can always do anytime. Just take a few minutes break stretch your back for a short relaxation.

Physical abuse – Did you know that you can even get a whiplash if you’re voilently shaken? Kids being physically abused are most prone to this kind of injury.

If you see any symptoms that indicates whiplash, do not hesitate to go to your doctor and have your neck checked. It’s better to spend a few dollars for a neck injury prevention than splurge a lot of cash for a whiplash cure.

One of the body pains that you don’t want to have for sure is neck pains. Maybe because this body part is more sensitive than any parts of your body. Some of the people think that a simple neck pain won’t cause anything harmful so they ignore and don’t seek for any treatment when they’re having pains in the neck. Well, that’s where whiplash starts to develop. It gets worse when you don’t do something to eliminate the pain. Good thing there are whiplash cures that you can always have. And the better part of it, is you can self-care and treat this condition without even going to the doctor. Here are some of the tips on how to self-treat your whiplash:

Ice therapy – If your neck starts to throb, just take a considerable size of ice cube and cover it with a cloth. It’s like a cold compress, only, you need to use a thinner but not so thin piece of cloth. Then place the compress at the back of your neck and remain it for about 20 minutes. You can do this over and over again until the pain stops.

Pop-up some pills – Just can’t take the pain anymore? Well, you can always take some medicines like anti-inflammatory or some tablets with ibuprofen and pain reliever. However, if you have past illness history such as reflux and peptic ulcer, get your doctor’s advice before taking any medicine. This is not a whiplash cure but it can eliminate the pain you’re feeling.

Neck massage – When a muscle aches, there is no treatment better than a relaxing massage. You can even use some liniments to make you feel better. Neck rest is also advisable because there are times that your neck only aches when you’re stressed.

These are just some of the things that you can do if the pain is still tolerable. However, should you feel an intense agony, don’t hesitate to go to your doctor and have your neck examined. Whiplash cure is not that easy, you are still going to need a professional’s help to treat your condition.

This eastern remedy has been used to treat many different kinds of other conditions and problems.

It is based on the idea that Qi(energy) is flowing continously throughout our body and disruption in its flow cause different conditions. So by blocking certain points and allowing certain points to flow more it aims to restore the harmony of the flow in your body.

If it is very serious and is almost intolerable then you really must consult a professional physician. But at the same time it won’t hurt to try out this alternative treatment.

Try and learn more about it and see for yourself. It won’t hurt to research and see what it can do for you. You never know, it might just be the treatment you have been looking for all this time that will relieve you of your neck pains.
